Eta Omega Chapter works with the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to register voters in Fulton County, Georgia. On five occasions at two Atlanta area malls, (September 23, 2009-West End Mall, September 30, 2009-West End Mall, October 1, 2009-Greenbriar Mall, October 3, 2009-Greenbriar Mall, and October 4, 2009-West End Mall) Chapter Brothers manned tables to prompt people to register to vote and to answer questions about how to become voters.
Witnessing the excitement generated by the last Presidential election and realizing the need to participate in the political process, the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP sought to register additional voters in Fulton County, Georgia. In an effort to reach people in minority neighborhoods and insure that they have the right to vote, the NAACP sought assistance in registering voters from various local organizations.
Eta Omega was contacted by the NAACP and readily agreed to participate in the voter registration drive. Through the Brothers efforts at the five mall events, paperwork for approximately fifty voters was submitted to the office of voter registration for review and approval.
Working to register voters is not a new effort for Eta Omega. The Chapter has sponsored many voter registration projects over the past years. This recent voter registration effort was carried out under the auspices of the Chapter’s Social Action Committee. The Social Action Committee is Chaired by Bro. Carlton Truitt. Bro. Truitt personally participated in the voter registration effort and was enthusiastically supported by a solid core of dedicated Chapter Brothers.
Eta Omega Chapter is located in suburban southwest, Atlanta, Georgia, and is led by Basileus Bro. Joseph Robertson and Vice Basileus, Bro. Ronald Coleman.
