During the 2009 Thanksgiving holiday season, Eta Omega Chapter continued its tradition of helping others and extending support and friendship to the community. Eta Omega’s rich history of outreach and uplift during the holidays can be seen in the Chapter’s work with an “adopted family” and its continued activity with the Wheat Street Garden Towers community.

The Chapter has “adopted” the Locklin family residing in Atlanta’s historic Vine City neighborhood. The “adopted” family is headed by a grandmother on limited resources, who is caring for her eight grandchildren (six girls and two boys, ages three to thirteen). On the Friday before Thanksgiving, members of Eta Omega Chapter’s Social Action Committee took the grandmother on a grocery shopping trip where she selected items for her family for Thanksgiving and the days afterward. The items acquired during the grocery shopping trip were supplemented by additional food stuffs donated by the Chapter. The Chapter’s association with the adopted family will not stop at Thanksgiving but will be on a continuous basis. The Chapter is preparing to assist the family during the Christmas season with gifts, clothes and food stuffs.

The Thanksgiving season also gave the Chapter the opportunity to continue its long association with the Wheat Street Garden Towers community. Wheat Street Garden Towers is a seniors community living facility located in Atlanta’s historic Auburn Avenue neighborhood.

Eta Omega Chapter annually holds a “Pre-Father’s Day Breakfast” for the gentlemen residing at the Towers. The Breakfast is eagerly anticipated by Eta Omega and thoroughly enjoyed by the Brothers and residents. Through the Breakfast, the Chapter became aware of and involved in the Towers’ annual Thanksgiving activities. Over the past few years, the Chapter has donated Thanksgiving turkeys to the Wheat Street Garden Towers Community and has been their guests at Thanksgiving festivities. This year during a Thanksgiving fund raiser held at the Towers, Eta Omega was recognized for its continuing supportive relationship with the Wheat Street Garden Community. This year Eta Omega Chapter donated three turkeys and canned goods to the Wheat Street Garden Towers Community for their Thanksgiving festivities.

Eta Omega’s Social Action Committee is Chaired by Bro. Carlton Truitt. Bro. Truitt is supported by a dedicated Committee who are seeking to bring the Cardinal Principles to life through beneficially meaningful action in the community.

Eta Omega Chapter is led by Basileus, Bro. Joseph Robertson and Vice Basilieus, Bro. Ronald Coleman. Eta Omega Chapter is located in suburban southwest, Atlanta, Georgia.
