The men of Eta Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated are hosting a series of workshops on April 30th designed to help families stay afloat in these unsettled economic times.
The event, called Omegas Make A Difference, provides families with direct access to professional advice. Eta Omega Chapter Basileus (President) Ronald Coleman says the goal is "Uplift", which is one of the fraternity’s Cardinal Principles. "We want to provide help and hope to those who may be feeling overwhelmed."
For adults, there will be expert advice on fending off foreclosure, buying, selling, and financing a home, creating household budgets, and searching for employment. For teens, educators will provide instruction on preparing for and taking college entrance exams and other standardized tests, with a focus on Math and Verbal skills. Atlanta Police will provide crime prevention tips. Healthcare professionals will provide blood pressure, diabetes, and dental screening, among other services. The fraternity also plans to give away books to younger children. The day ends with a hearty lunch.
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity was founded at Howard University in 1911. The Eta Omega Chapter, established in Atlanta in 1919, was the first chapter of any Black Greek-letter organization to be founded and chartered in the state of Georgia. Through the years, active members of Eta Omega Chapter have included Atlanta civil rights icon Jesse Hill, City Council President Ceasar Mitchell, and Braves Hall of Famer David Justice.
