On August 5, 2011, the Friday before the start of regular classes at Atlanta's public schools, Eta Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated donated $1,000 in school supplies to the 3rd and 5th grade classes at two of the city's schools. The items included folders, composition books, pencils, ink pens, index cards, and art smocks. The 3rd and 5th grades were targeted because educators say these are generally the neediest children in families with more than one child.
At Deerwood Elementary in far southwest Atlanta, Eta Omega Brothers presented supplies to newly appointed Interim Principal Norlethia High. Principal Velva Bass and Social Action Committee Chairman Derek Wilson met with parents at D. H. Stanton Elementary in the inner city Peoplestown neighborhood , and later Brothers presented the school supplies to Stanton Elementary administrative staff member Laverne Nash.
