2011 ETA Omega Scholarship Banquet
"Don't let anything deter you from reaching your goals."
"Help someone that's coming after you."
These were the words of advice given to the scholars being honored at Eta Omega Chapter's Annual Scholarship Banquet on May 2, 2011. In addition to celebrating past achievements, the Banquet, held at Morris Brown College, was a time to encourage future excellence. This year, the Chapter recognized and rewarded 27 Atlanta-area high school seniors. Each of these young men received book scholarships to assist them in paying for their college expenses.

Master of ceremonies Bro. Henry J. Porter kept the crowd entertained throughout the evening with his usual array of charm and wit. The crowd, made up of students, proud families, and Omega Men, was treated to two musical selections from the Eta Omega Ensemble. Bro. Josiah Townsel gave the purpose of the evening, showing his talents with a brief poem meant to inspire the scholars.
The speaker for the evening was Bro. Darrell Comer, Jr., Basileus of Psi Chapter at Morehouse College and Undergraduate Representative to the Supreme Council. Only a few weeks shy of graduating Morehouse, Bro. Comer related his own experiences of being in the scholars' shoes only 4 years ago, and the life lessons his undergraduate career taught him.
Bro. Comer advised the young men to encourage those around them to succeed, associate with the right people, and to remain on the successful path that's gotten them this far. In a light-hearted moment, he informed them that the scholars in college "get the girls.”
The students were then awarded with certificates, with 10 being recognized as Dosh Jackson Scholars. This special designation was given in honor of Bro. Dosh Jackson, who recently turned 100 and whose family made a contribution to the event from his birthday celebration. Dosh Jackson Scholars are those young men who will pursue studies in music, electronics, engineering and mathematics, a few of Bro. Jackson's interests. The evening ended with remarks from Eta Omega Basileus Ron Coleman, a stirring rendition of Omega Dear, and a few pictures with proud parents and the scholars.
Eta Omega Chapter would like to thank the Atlanta Quettes auxiliary group, the family of Dosh R. Jackson, and the Eta Omega Foundation for their support of the event. The Chapter would also like to commend its Scholarship Committee, chaired by Bro. Wilbur T. Leaphart, for continually identifying scholars and planning a stellar banquet.
